The 2010 umpires meeting/rules clinic is scheduled for
2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 28th at IDK Bar & Grill. All
umpires must attend in order to umpire men's and/or women's games this
season. Team managers and players are most definitely welcome to
attend as well in order to get a better understanding of the rules and,
hopefully, a better appreciation for the job of the umpires.
For our new and prospective umpires, the process of
becoming an umpire begins at this meeting. There will be another
meeting towards the end of April which, weather permitting, will include
some on field training that may involve live situations within an
exhibition game (or games) if we can get teams and players interested in
participating.
Umpires are required to obtain their own apparel -
hat, shirt, slacks and shoes, the details of which will be discussed at
the rules clinic - but can easily make back that initial investment.
Umpires earn $20 per game. Between the men's and women's schedule,
there are approximately 60 games that need to be officiated each week.
The greatest need will once again be on Thursday nights, the only night
on which both men's and women's games are played.
Any questions about umpiring or the meetings can be
directed to our regional Umpire In Chief Tom Harty, who will be
orchestrating the meetings and training our newest umpires, at 952-1586
or
tharty@daktel.com.
2010 UMPIRES SCHEDULE (TBD)
If games on an umpire's schedule diamond result
in a forfeit, that umpire must work at least one game on another diamond
with another umpire in order to receive payment for their scheduled
games.
A phone list for all umpires is also available.
